About:
Tony Rust Karting Track is located near Windhoek, Namibia, within the Tony Rust Race Track complex. Named after legendary Namibian racing driver Tony Rust, the dedicated karting circuit is situated on hilly terrain nine kilometers west of the city center. The karting facility hosts the Namibia National Go-Karting Championships and Rotax Max Challenge events throughout the year. Set on challenging topography with elevation changes, the track demands precision and commitment from drivers. As Namibia’s premier karting venue, Tony Rust serves as the hub for grassroots and competitive karting development in the country.
AAO Comments:
We ended up scanning this track on what must have been one of the hottest days in recorded history… or at least that’s what it felt like. Just moving around in the absence of shade felt like someone had tied a bag of rocks to each limb. The heat was absolutely relentless.
Although we scanned this track just a couple of days after Swakopmund, it took us a while to release it due to the demands of other circuits taking priority. However, this ended up being a blessing in disguise. The knowledge and expertise required to model Tony Rust turned out to be on a level we did not possess at the time of scanning. The topography, the sprawling nature of the facility, and the technical challenges meant we had to grow significantly as a team before we could do this circuit justice. The result is a recreation we’re incredibly proud of—one that captures the challenging terrain and character of Namibia’s most important motorsport venue.
